We must return back to society, what ever we can in what ever way we can......

This was a small effort by Railway police Nagpur and Municipal corporation Nagpur. The school was then handed over by Municipal corporation to an NGO taken care of by Sh Srikant Aglave. Since then many children have gone back to their home and many new have come. There are many children staying there now and their stay and education is being looked after by the NGO. I feel so happy to see the school growing.
I was initiated in start of this school along with the then Municipal commissioner Sh Aseem Gupta. Later Sh Sanjeev Jaiswal and other commissioners also took lot of interest in running of this school. The local police and the GRP Nagpur has extended full support to this cause.
Below is the letter which was sent to me by Sh Shrikant who received it from a well wisher and I wish to share the same with you all.

PERCEPTIONS IN LIFE!

Another story on Paradigm Shift

There is a difference in what we see and what we hear. There is always a difference between  thoughts of people.

Let's move, please read the following stories to  understand this better..

CHANGE IN PERCEPTION

It was a serene Sunday morning, approximately around 6.30 AM a middle aged man with three children walked down to an underground railway station. He sat pensively on a chair waiting for the train, but, his children were screaming, jumping, making noise and one of them even pulled the newspaper one of the other passengers sitting and waiting for the train.

Unable to take this anymore, one old man, pushing his eye glasses, turned to the father of the children and said, "It's time you did something to restore the tranquility of the morning by disciplining the children."

The father who was in a deep thought, with his head down, looked up and replied, "You are absolutely right sir, I too was wondering, what do I do with these three children who lost their mother in the hospital about an hour ago."

Hearing this all the passengers there drew a blank, as if they were frozen cold by what they heard.

They immediately started offering help. One said he could adopt a child, the other said he could take care of all expenses of a kid by financing him, another offered immediate cash support..etc.

The perception changed in a moment from irritation and annoyance to empathy and kindness.

This is a story from Steven Covey's famous book "Seven Habits of Effective People," wherein he says our mind already so full of thoughts at any given point reacts to situations and pass judgments, without getting to know the entire problem. Comments are made which can hurt, but, when you get to know the fact it becomes regrettable as words already shot can't be withdrawn.

The author suggests we keep an open mind to receive and respond rather than react.

Professionalism, Ethics, Morality

#Professionalism #Ethics #Morality
Shiv Khera, a renowned author and management trainer writes about his experience in Singapore :

"Six years ago in Singapore I gave a taxi driver a business card to take me to a particular address.

At the last point he circled round the building. His meter read 11$, but he took only 10.

I said Henry, your meter reads 11$ how come you are taking only 10.

He said Sir, I am a taxi driver, I am supposed to be bringing you straight to the destination. Since I did not know the last spot, I had to circle around the building. Had I brought you straight here, the meter would have read 10$.

Why should you be paying for my ignorance ?

He said Sir, legally, I can claim 11$ but Honestly and ethically I am entitled to only 10.

He further added that Singapore is a tourist destination and many people come here for three or four days. After clearing the immigrations and customs, the first experience is always with the taxi driver and if that is not good, the balance three to four days are not pleasant either.

He said Sir I am not a taxi driver, I am the Ambassador of Singapore without a diplomatic passport.

In my opinion he probably did not go to school beyond the 8th grade, but to me he was a professional. To me his behavior reflected pride in performance and character.

That day I learnt that one needs more than professional qualification to be a professional.

In one line be a "Professional with a human touch and Values " that makes all the more difference.

Knowledge, skill, money, education, all comes later. First comes Human Values, Honesty and Integrity

Professionalism: It’s NOT the job you DO, It’s HOW you DO the job.”

Be Positive!

My Culture my pride!

Prepare to face the troubled situations

Some times in life situations test us and if we are prepared then we easily sail through. But there are conditions attached:
1. How we trained our mind and body when the situations were favorable?
2. Did we adapt to the changing situations and joined the club of survival of the fittest?
3. Did we form a group of friends who would stand by us in troubled situations.
4. How were our relations with our family members?
There are many more things which we must keep in mind while leading our life. We never know when and how the situations would change, so be ready.

Happy new year 2015

The new year is about to begin and this is the time for self analysis for how we faired in last one year.
1. Whether we achieved the targets we had set for our selves?
2. Did we perform as per our capabilities?
3. Did we bring any positive difference in someone's life?
4. Did we take care of our health?
Etc. etc. ....
2014 is almost gone but are we planning something for 2015? This is the time for self analysis and planning for self betterment and betterment of people around us. We have a huge potential and we have to just understand that.
Just give it a thought and have a great year ahead!

Pleasure of giving

Why only few should have pleasure of giving? Everyone has equal opportunity. I know group of youngsters who visit the terminally ill patients and serve them, some go to old age homes and some to home for orphans etc. What I learnt from such people is:
1. Its not only money which matters the most.
2. Its our attitude towards humanity which is more important.
3. There is no point saying I don't have material things to share with needy, but devoting our time for them can also bring happiness in the life of many.
4. Believe me it gives immense pleasure when you make people smile.
5. Our position do matter but what is the use if we don't go out of our comfort zone and make the world realize that we are there to take care of atleast few.
Enjoy the pleasure of giving!

Gesture

An old lady came to meet me yesterday in reference to a person who went missing about ten days ago near Bhusaval while traveling by train. She went to one of the police station where she had a very bad experience and getting any help was a far fetched dream.
She narrated the whole story to me and I put people on job. She was so impressed that while leaving she politely said I will call you my son. I did not know how to react?
Few points I wish to make here are:
1. What do we lose if we politely talk to people?
2. Why can't we empathize with the people?
3. It is our conduct which plays a major role.
4. It is understood that we cannot solve each and every problem instantly or over a period of time but we can at least show concern and make people feel that we are there.
There are many more things but the moral of the story is that we should be positive and concerned towards the person in trouble. A good gesture on our part can bring so much comfort in some one's life!

Conduct

In public life all our actions are scrutinized very critically, so we must understand when to do what!

Impression

Few days back I was in Railway police head quarter Mumbai. As I was discussing issues with my officers, I was informed that the body of one of my personnel has arrived to be given last respect. As I was present there so I did my duty and paid my tributes in my official capacity.
After many days the son of that police personnel came to meet me all the way from Banguluru yesterday to thank me. In  addition he discussed many issues which were a learning experience to me and which as a leader I must know. I won't discuss them here but the point I want to make is that even our small gestures are observes very closely by all. There is always a need to empathise and correlate with the people and situation. These little gestures goes a long way in making or breaking your image.

Venture outside your comfort zone and be the legend!

Problem with most of us is that we don't wish to leave our comfort zone because of insecurity. History has many examples of those who ventured in the dark and became legends.

Another Stampede, this time at Patna Gandhi Maidan

on 3rd of October 2014: 33 people killed and 29 injured during Dussera celebrations at Gandhi Maidan, Patna:

Why is this happening again and again in India?

I believe the place was not properly barricaded and the arrangement of public announcement was not proper. There should be proper entry and exit and the capacity of the place should be measured well in advance to allow the crowd. It is said that the lighting was not proper this is also serious, why was it so?
How long such kind of incidents will be allowed to happen and we will keep on losing lives this way. Such kind of gatherings should be supervised properly and all the departments involved should take up their responsibility properly. The only way to contain rumours is to have proper public address system and proper intelligence gathering. There should be volunteer’s along with the police to guide people properly. In such kind of gatherings many people lost temporarily and it also leads to anxiety. There should be proper arrangement of alternate mode of electricity in case of power failure.
This is high time that we realize all this.
Such events portray a very bad picture of our country and lack of coordination amongst various agencies in organizing such big events. The responsibility should be fixed and there should be an apex body to deal with such gatherings. Today, world over many gadgets are being used to deal with huge crowds and the same should be used in India also.

New posting at Thane city, new challenges! Looks interesting......

Sunday, April 28, 2013

Face book and other social networking sites have become very important medium of information sharing in the world. People have been using this for different purposes as per their requirements. I think this can be an important medium of social awareness for the masses. We can take various issues in this but I think we can start with a very small issue which would not require any expenses also.
Since I returned back from my UN posting in year 2008 the issue of use of horns has been bothering me a lot. Some people may think it as a stupid thought but if we go in detail we would realise that it is becoming a serious issue especially in urban areas.
In this regard my suggestion is to start with a no horn day on our own. In India we expect Government to do everything for us. And just think, how much would police do in addition to their already existing heavy duties. We will have to share our burden! In western world the horn is used in very rare cases. I found them using it in case someone was overtaking wrongly or violating the traffic rules etc. But in India we use it as a habit which can be changed. We will have to come out “HORN OK PLEASE” or “BLOW HORN” mentality. We will have to realise that if we are honking near hospitals or schools then we are committing a crime. Believe me without using horn our driving is more safe and it has been proved that stress level also come down.
May be this activity of us tomorrow becomes a movement in the country. With this, we will be contributing a little bit for a good cause from our side. Can I request you all to give up the habit of honking every now and then? Please give it a thought and send your suggestions/ comments in this respect.

How creative, the Dhokra art form from Bastar!

senior citizens, something shall be done

Old age or senior citizens number is increasing at a fast pace in India. The children are not getting time for their parents and hence the parents are forced to live alone. Can we do something in this respect?
The quetion is important and we will have to find some solution for this.

Coordinaiton

The new diseases are erupting from time to time and it is not only one part of the world which get affected but it crosses the geopolitical boundaries. The latest one in the list is the Swine flew and unfortunately the medicine has not been very effective for this disease.
It requres coordinated effort at an internatonal level so that the whole humanity can be saved. All the great scientists will have to come together to fight such kind of menaces.
